The Seed Supply Shortage
After decades of insufficient funding, an aging out knowledge base, and increased fire severity in the West; tree seed supply chains are currently unable to meet the need for ambitious reforestation goals. The solution? Focused collaboration that invests in a specialized workforce and flexible commercial operations addressing the seed needs of our changing climate.
RSS Origins
In 2021, RSS founder Felicia Froton was introduced to the complex operations of seed collection. Diving head first, she organized and lead a team to collect more than 20,000lbs of seed across 6 states over 4 years. Through that work it became apparent that an important driver of scaling seed collection is investment in the workforce and to integrate a community mindset to the regions of operations.
Our Mission
RSS is focused on sustainably scaling the tree seed supply chain. This means connecting the demand of the private marketplace to regions of ecological significance, ensuring that capital is generated and utilized strategically to conserve genetic diversity. This also requires equity across the workforce including active engagement with forest communities. RSS aims to contribute to building a resilient seed economy in the face of unstable geopolitics and a changing climate.
